We saw the story of George Burns’ life, Say Goodnight, Gracie, at the Hippodrome Theater in Baltimore. Frank Gorshin played George Burns trying to get into heaven by telling God his life story. Really well done, I felt as if I were eavesdropping on a conversation between two friends. Mr. Gorshin was quite good in [...]
Peter Pan
My wife and I saw Peter Pan, with Cathy Rigby as Peter. It was at the outdoor theater at Wolf Trap. Surprisingly, it did not feel like it was outdoors, the bugs were non existent, and the humidity and temperature were quite comfortable. The show was wonderful, Peter and the kids really flew! Captain Hook [...]
Odd Couple
We saw Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple performed by the Castaways Repertory Theatre on February 19, 2005. I don’t think I had ever seen the movie, or even an entire episode of the TV show before, so I was surprised by the play. It was well done, and very enjoyable.
Little Shop of Horrors
The Little Shop of Horrors was much funnier than I remember from seeing the movie when I was a kid. But t did have some scarier moments, and the violence from Audrey 2 was a bit too much at times. But all in all, a good show.
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
I saw “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” at the Mill Mountain Theater at Center in the Square in Roanoke, Virginia on June 24th. The performers did quite well with it. There were not a large number of people in the audience, but at times the laughter was deafening. I [...]
Arsenic and Old Lace
We saw the Woodbridge High School production of Arsenic and Old Lace on February 20, 2005. The kids did a pretty convincing job of being much older. And they handled the humorous aspects of murder pretty well. I definitely recommned that you see high school productions, they are a lot cheaper than the professional theater, [...]
The Lion King
To summarize: Best. Show. Ever.
There were people flying, elephants and rhinos, just incredible. It was too much to look at, you simply couldn’t see everything.
If you’ve seen the animated movie, you know the story, but the live performance simply blew the movie away. There were a few new scenes, and Mufasa’s death caused a [...]
Scrooge, the Musical
Last night my wife and I traveled to the Riverside Dinner Theater near Fredericksburg, VA to see Scrooge, the Musical. It was an excellent show. The acting, costumes, lighting effects, singing and music were great. The use of the stage set was very well done, with only one entrance on each side, and a raised [...]
Anything Goes
Last week my wife and I saw “Anything Goes” at the Lazy Susan Dinner Theater. The show itself was very enjoyable, one of the best ones we’ve seen at the Lazy Susan. You could actually hear and understand most of the dialogue, the singing was pretty good, and the dance numbers were very well done.
I’m [...]
The Wizard of Oz
Last weekend we all saw The Wizard of Oz performed by the Woodbridge Young Peoples’ Theater. They did a fantastic job. Some of the musical numbers got a little confused, but all in all, they did quite well. And they even had a real dog performing as Toto.
