I’ve added in my August 2005 numbers to my Netflix Analysis. Sixteen movies received, 5.23 hours quickest turnaround, 31.83 hours longest turnaround, for an average turnaround time of 17.90 hours.
Broadway Bound
We saw Neil Simon’s Broadway Bound performed by the Little Theater of Alexandria. It was good. The acting was a little uneven (only 6 characters in the entire show), but we had a good time. At one point, I had a thought that the main character shared in a later monologue.
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast
I wasn’t expecting too much of this show since all I remembered was the cartoon movie from Disney. But it was really good. I love seeing the expressions that the actors can share. Seeing the Beast crawl along the floor, or pounce into a throne simply brings animation to life. We saw the show performed by the Reston Community Players. The troups worked quite hard to perform this. The sets were incredible! There was a lot of flexibility, stairs that moved, dungeons that disappeared, a forest that simply appeared.
Jesus Christ Superstar
I saw the 2nd Flight Productions Theater Company, in Manassas perform Jesus Christ Superstar on September 10. I hadn’t seen the show before, but it was really good. The ending left out the most important part of the story of Jesus’ life (His resurrection), but it otherwise mostly kept close to the Bible. There were some interpretation issues with Judas, but it was interesting, and a definite way to open some discussions. The cast was rather large, with live music. I enjoyed the performance.
Grease
Wow, back in June I saw “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” in Roanoke, and said I would see another show at the Mill Mountain Theater at Center in the Square if I were in Roanoke. Well, in August I was in Blacksburg, so I saw “Grease.” It was a great show. Luckily I got my tickets in advance, because the Saturday matinee shows were sold out! The performance was great, they had the musicians sitting on the stage. The actors were enjoying themselves, which made it much easier for us (the audience) to enjoy ourselves.
Virginia Tech Photographs
My wife and I visited Blacksburg, Virginia in the middle of August. We were lucky and were there the week between summer school ending and fall classes beginning. Before church on Sunday morning I took a walking tour of the Virginia Tech campus. There was nobody around! It was probably the only weekend of the year when you can take pictures of the campus without tons of people ending up in the photos. I broke the images down into six groups.
Legos
I think they’ve lost the fight, but visit the Legos web site anyway.
My first time
to pay over $3.00/gallon for gas was Thursday evening, when I drove past three gas stations ($3.099, $3.199) to get gas for $3.059 a gallon. I just went by the local gas station and the price for regular was up to $3.499/gallon. You can check prices at GasBuddy.com or Virginia Gas Prices. Although be aware that the prices at Virginia Gas Prices haven’t been updated since Friday evening, and seem to be massively out of date right now.
Netflix Shipping Time Analysis
When you subscribe to Netflix, you get an email whenever their shipping office receives a DVD you’ve shipped back, or when they ship a DVD to you. So, since I felt that the service was slowing down, I decided to do a analysis of the times to see if the service really was slowing down. The Netflix Shipping Time Chart basically tells me that their service hasn’t slipped too much lately, it’s always not been as good as I think it is. Although October 2004 through December 2004 were really good! Feel free to send me your thoughts and opinions of Netflix.
Is Morgan Stanley Dying?
I’ve been seeing news articles about Morgan Stanley, and some kind of problems they are having at the top. Should I be concerned?
My wife and I have been Morgan Stanley customers for over 10 years. We started out as Dean Witter clients. A few months ago our broker left. We got no notice. We moved our accounts from Roanoke, Virginia to Washington DC. We got a new broker. He just left. Now Morgan Stanley doesn’t want to return our calls. I finally reached someone just today, and he treated me like I was dirt. I’m sorry my portfolio isn’t in the six figures, but that’s the way life is. Morgan Stanley needs to treat their clients right, and I don’t think they are. A big part of me thinks they are trying to get us to close our accounts.
