I’ve always wondered how to fold shiirts in a store after I unfold it. But it never looks right. I’ll have to practice this t-shirt folding technique. Wow.
Need Some Furniture? Try FedEx
Why do some corporations not have a sense of humor? In another example of trying to take the legal system too far, FedEx tried to get a web site shutdown. This guy created furniture with nothing but FedEx boxes and stickers. How does FedEx respond? Do they send him money for real furniture? Do they make a really cool SuperBowl commercial (ala Jared from Subway?) No, they file lawsuits telling him to cease and desist. Luckily the site is back up. Visit FedexFurniture.com.
The Web
The best thing about the web is that it allows anyone to publish.
The worst thing about the web is that it allows anyone to publish.
Cut Us a Break!
High school age children are generally not dumb. They are curious, bright, and tend (like children do) to do the opposite of what they are told. Give a high schooler a laptop computer and tell them they can’t do something, and they’ll do it just to see if they can. Charging the student with felony charges is ridiculous. See Cut Us a Break for the story in Kutztown, Pennsylvania where the local school administration is charging a fair number of students with felonies because the system administrators couldn’t adequately manage the laptops.
Cool Illusions using Light and Darkness
A professor from MIT has written a paper on how light and darkness affects our perception. Check out the examples, you’ll think you are going blind.
The King and I
My wife and I saw The King and I at the Hippodrome Theater in Baltimore. Stefani Powers was Anna. Wow, a very exciting performance.
Say Goodnight, Gracie
We saw the story of George Burns’ life, Say Goodnight, Gracie, at the Hippodrome Theater in Baltimore. Frank Gorshin played George Burns trying to get into heaven by telling God his life story. Really well done, I felt as if I were eavesdropping on a conversation between two friends. Mr. Gorshin was quite good in the role. He passed away three months later, in May 2005.
Netflix is dying….
Since early July, Netflix has been slowing down how quickly they process the sending and receiving of new DVDs from my queue. Historically (over a year now) I would send a DVD back, get an email in the morning, and then get an email that same afternoon letting me know my next DVD was being mailed. Since early July, it has taken an extra day to get my “next movie is in the mail” notice. I emailed NetFlix customer service, and was basically told “tough, maybe I should change the mailing address I have Netflix send movies to.” Gee, thanks. I asked for clarification, maybe they are having lots of people on vacation right now. They replied with their FAQ response. So, even though I have 50+ items in my queue, I’m seriously considering cancelling my service. Or at least exploring Blockbuster.
Peter Pan
My wife and I saw Peter Pan, with Cathy Rigby as Peter. It was at the outdoor theater at Wolf Trap. Surprisingly, it did not feel like it was outdoors, the bugs were non existent, and the humidity and temperature were quite comfortable. The show was wonderful, Peter and the kids really flew! Captain Hook (boo – hiss!) wasn’t quite as scary or mean as I remember from seeing Peter Pan when I was a kid (alas, I grew up!). Definitely try to see this one live if you can.
Odd Couple
We saw Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple performed by the Castaways Repertory Theatre on February 19, 2005. I don’t think I had ever seen the movie, or even an entire episode of the TV show before, so I was surprised by the play. It was well done, and very enjoyable.
